Return
to Ithaca Synopsis
See
the young girl with the yellow ribbon in her hair
Watch
as she races the wind and the sky to touch she does dare
In
her hand she holds the string that Klotho has woven and will determine her fate.
She
flies her kite and tethers it to the ground trying to control the path it will
take.
Fly little kite high into the clouds and dance with the wind as you
circle and sway.
Fly little kite and have no fear, I will make sure that you will not go
astray.
Sophia
came from Greece to this land, so many years ago.
The
future before her, the sorrows, hardships, successes and happiness she did not
know.
She
came here as a young bride for a better future to make.
She
had no idea what was ahead of her or what path her life would take.
A
young bride made a younger widow still after only a mere six months of wedded
bliss.
She
forever remembers the lines of her husband’s face and the sweetness of his
kiss.
He
left his legacy in the form of a child- a son that she bore and raised.
The
child she devoted her life to give a better future -the dear lord be praised.
She
struggled to learn the language, the customs and ways of this new land.
This
was her new home and the fate of her future rested in her little hand.
Now,
she sees her son – the man she dreamed he would become and more.
A
successful doctor with a loving wife and a beautiful daughter- a great future is
in store.
- Sophia, a grandchild they
blessed you with and in her you see proof of heaven above.
In this little girl you found a new little soul to nurture and love.
You guided her and taught her- showed
her the importance of her past.
Gave her the gifts of her heritage to ensure that -your generation will
not be the last.”
-Nefeli, you are the life in your grandmother’s tired soul and the
fire in a spirit that was embers
Now for you, she looks back once more and her distant home remembers.
You want to go to Greece soon, take your own path not knowing what your
future will be.
Your grandma prays only that she lives long enough for your happiness
and success to see.
For that is life-in its endless circle- and this is as should be by
right.
We are born to this life to struggle, to dream. to create and pass on to
future generations our fight.
So
everyone, close your eyes now... and rest for awhile.
Visualize
a young girl running, flying her kite and smile
as
the winds take the kite higher and higher still,
What
is to come to pass- come to pass it will.
